Abstract

This research described in this paper was focused on visualization of food in the media and its importance for society and the individual. The aim of the paper is to show how this visualization is realized in different media and thus improve critical visual literacy of media consumers. Furthermore, this paper provides an overview of theoretical research on food media content, but in addition, there is also an analysis of the content of some media that deal with food that are available in the media market of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The analysis was focused on the most important primary visual media – press, television and the Internet, whose content is intended for watching as the most important form of contemporary consumption, instead of being for actual use of presented knowledge. Food presented in the media loses all connection with the food in real life and becomes a spectacle, an image for watching whose aim is to create an illusion of pleasure.
